Why Now Could Be a Good Time to Test the Legal Jobs Market

You don’t have to be unhappy in your current role to see what else is out there.

Across Yorkshire and the North East, law firms are continuing to invest in key practice areas, open and expand offices, make senior hires and build teams around experienced lawyers. That creates opportunities – often before they are widely advertised.

For candidates, particularly those with a few years’ PQE and the ability to manage work independently, the market remains competitive.

Salary is important, of course, but it is no longer the only factor. Hybrid working, flexibility, progression, workload, benefits and the quality of the team are all playing a bigger part in decisions about whether to move.

We are also seeing a wide range of working arrangements. Some firms still expect regular office attendance, while others are offering two or three days working from home, flexible hours or even largely remote roles.

So, even if you are reasonably happy where you are, it can be useful to understand:

  • What your experience is currently worth
  • Which firms are growing in your area
  • Whether your current salary and benefits are competitive
  • What hybrid and flexible working options are available
  • Where your next promotion or career step could come from

You don’t need to be actively job hunting to have a confidential conversation.

Sometimes the best time to look at the market is before you actually need to move.
